Sustainable Floristry: Eco-Friendly Approaches for Modern Designers

Practical ways our studio reduces waste, avoids floral foam, and works in harmony with the seasons.

At Prizemora, we believe beautiful arrangements should never come at the expense of the planet. Our commitment to sustainable floristry shapes every decision we make, from the way we source stems to the materials we use to secure them.

Reducing Single-Use Plastics

Traditional floral foam is convenient but nearly impossible to recycle, and it breaks down into microplastics that end up in our waterways. We have moved away from foam entirely, opting instead for reusable chicken wire, reusable water tubes, and hand-tied methods that hold arrangements securely while staying kind to the environment.

Working With the Seasons

Seasonal sourcing means our designs follow nature's rhythm rather than fighting it. By choosing blooms that are naturally available, we cut down on the carbon footprint of long-haul shipping and ensure every stem arrives fresher, lasts longer, and carries a story about its Australian origin.

Composting and Reuse

Leftover foliage from our workshops is collected and composted, while vases and containers are cleaned and reused across multiple projects. Our studio also partners with local growers to return green waste to the soil, closing the loop on every arrangement we create.

Advice for Home Designers

You don't need a professional studio to embrace sustainability. Choose locally grown stems, condition them well, reuse vases from op shops, and give old blooms a second life through drying or pressing. Small changes in daily practice add up to a healthier floral industry for everyone.
